Couple/Relationship Counseling

What can I expect at my first couples counseling appointment?
Your first appointment will be to gather information and necessary background to determine your treatment goals and needs. Both parties will be encouraged to participate and provide feedback.
Will my partner and I always be seen together or can we meet separately with our counselor?
This will be guided by your counselor however please note that equal time will be given to both parties so that both parties feel safe and secue wth the conselor and don’t feel that a counselor “is taking sides” or has more of a relationship with one party over the other to avoid any concerns of a conflict of interest.

Child/Teen Counseling

Do parents/caregivers participate in counseling sessions?
Parent/Caregiver participation is encouraged at the initial session when the counselor is gathering background information related to clinical treatment goals. Participation in future sessions is dependent upon counselor clinical recommendations and treatment goals.
How do I engage with my child/teen’s counselor?
Counselors are available the first or last 15 minutes of every scheduled session to coordinate with the parent/caregiver as needed. Should you require more time your counselor will schedule a parent/caregiver consultation appointment with you.
How do I know what my child/teen is working on?
For the counseling process to work it is important that session confidentiality is maintained. However, as a parent/caregiver you are able to participate in the creation and see the treatment plan as well as be provided with clinical goals and topics that are the focus of treatment. You may also see some of the topics included on homework, worksheets or art work children/teens take home if they choose to share with you. Please feel free to reach out to your child/teen’s counselor with any questions or concerns.
