Trauma can come in various forms and create uncomfortable feelings affecting us in many ways. Choosing to address your trauma and move forward in a healthier manner can be life-changing. We offer EMDR as a treatment option upon consultation for specific trauma treatment.
EMDR is a form of therapy developed in the 1980s by Dr. Francine Shapiro and can be used to reprocess disturbing events. By using tapping or eye movement to stimulate the brain, memories can be stored in a new setting and feel more neutral to the individual. EMDR takes into account the past, present, and future and can be an effective treatment for individuals struggling with the past and its impacts on the present and future.
Below are some websites with further information regarding EMDR and what to expect:
“The strength that is displayed in labor and birth is something that no one can EVER take from you in your life. Elixir of courage.” –Desirre Andrews
Research shows that birth outcome is a variable known to affect bonding (Gunning, 2004, Hoffenkamp, 2012).
Achieving the desired birth experience will result in less psychological trauma to the mother (Soest, 2012; Beck, 2004).
It is common for women to experience emotional struggles postpartum. This can appear days after having your baby or months later and affect your ability to care for your baby, yourself, your relationship, etc. It is important to seek treatment for support.
